This is a fine example of why we need an updated Tournament format/system.

Only 3 players proceeded to Final/3rd place, Xan didn't even have anyone to play for 3rd place, so automatically got the win/points, he didn't even win a single game LOL!

Not to say that the current Tournament system is perfect (which is clearly not), but this is not a fine example of a flaw.

The moderator started the tournament with 9 people. Either he should have start it with 8 or make the last two participants play for the 8th spot. (and then update the 8th slot of the tournament with the winner)
Moreover, why would you proceed XanKriegor to bronze if he didn't play anything. You could give gold and silver medals and then close the Tournament.

Well, I never said it was a flaw, but now that I think about it, it is a flaw:

flaw - a feature that mars the perfection of something; defect; fault.


If you are able to start a Tournament in such a manner that it can/will end in this unfair/unfinished manner, that's a flaw, and that's a fact.

YOU programmed this website, YOU made this possible, YOU must not blame other players for falling victim to a flaw you created.

We will try our best to avoid this in future(using your advice), but is it at all possible for you to make us an updated Tournament system please? If you don't have time, that's ok, but it doesn't hurt to ask

Yeh last time I kicked the last player cos we had 17.. could have done the same this time. I thought the tourney status would remain "unfinished" if I didn't proceed a player to the 3rd place. I took the bronze away from XanKriegor now

Blame? Bad person? What happened to your vocabulary?  We're talking about tournament system.

I could put a lock on the tournament to only accept numbers such as 8 or 16 but current code allows the mod to start off the tournament with empty slots and add players later. "later" means either 20 minutes after the tournament or the next days.

In this case, when Senator started it with 9 players. He gained 7 empty slots. For tournament's quality sake, he could turn the tournament into the cup strategy:  finish the games with arranging. So he tries to get people to join those 7 slots and get those games done later.

But if a moderator don't want to or doesn't have such plans, he should kick the 9th person and have a 8-player tournament.

The "1 extra player" is not always the outcome. Sometimes there are 7 player available. So this feature allows the moderate to startup a 8-player tourney with one empty slot. (while advertising for that empty slot AFTER the tournament has started)

In short, current system allows the moderator to decide which route he likes to take.
